  1. Hi PinksPen!
I agree equality is equality. I actually wore red on international women’s day but I don’t think anyone noticed, LOL. I teach about women’s rights or lack of women’s rights to seventh graders.
I met you at Jason’s blog party. Maybe you can check out my blog. I help bloggers at my site. I also have blog parties like Jason where you could meet new readers.

    1. Wow! Janice, thank you so much for reaching out. Thank you for reading. That is amazing, what you do. So admirable. I remember connecting. Thanks for the invite. I will definitely check it out.

      1. This is a great site, So many useful tools! Thanks for sharing your site with me. You’ve got a follower in me!

      2. It’s awesome. There is so much I have thought about wanting and I think everything on your site can really help build my brand!

  2. But Feminism is completely at odds with LGBTQ ideas. How can one side (feminism) say we are equal and we need equal rights and yet still support the transgender movement that says we ARE different and we want to be someone else?

      1. How is feminism completely at odds with transgender people? True feminism is about accepting our differences as equal. Feminism is not based upon being a female. Of course, feminism supports women’s rights and equality in comparison to men, but true feminism embraces LGBT+ because feminism embraces equality!

    1. I am trying to understand your question? Are you saying that transgender people are not accepted in feminism? Are you stating that being a transgender woman does not classify them as a female? Are you saying that feminism is for or against transgender people? I think any topic is subjective, by equality, to me means equality. That’s it. when you read the definition, there is no room for exceptions! Looking forward to your response!

      1. Let’s clarify our definitions first. You have an advantage when you are throwing out terms like “true feminism” because then you are basically saying even though all of these things are said by feminists I can choose which are actually feministic by calling the ones that I agree with “true feminism.” When you talk about equality is that equality as in we all have the same ability to succeed whatever, or is it we all need to be equalized by someone, something etc.
Before we get into this discussion I ask that you would define the terms Feminism, transgender, and which of the definitions of equality you are using.

      2. I define feminism as equality for all and understanding that equality means embracing differences.
Transgender is just what that is, i shouldn’t have to define that….
Equality isn’t about being the same, it is about embracing differences and accepting them as equal!!!

      3. Not sure if I am answering your question because equality is subjective …. I think equality is about embracing our differences and educating ourselves on other cultures.
There are many who identify as feminist, but in reality they are not because they feel that women should be superior. I do not believe in superiority.

    2. But that’s exactly my point. We can’t have a productive discussion if every time I present an example you say “well that’s not ‘true’ feminism, transgenderism, etc.”
I agree, equality is good and it is something that needs to be talked about. However, I refuse to believe that in America that we are sexist because some people say that they won’t serve to some people. If we really stood for equality and tolerance we should be ok with the fact that some people don’t want to serve to others. That should be their right and just because we don’t like it doesn’t mean we should employ the government to impose your ideas of “equality” on everyone.
I believe that people should have the right to do what they want, up to a certain point. As the saying goes “My right to swing my fist ends when your nose begins.” If people want to refuse service to someone because of their race, sexuality, or any other reason then fine, go to a different photographer, but don’t limit their rights by forcing them to serve to someone that they don’t agree with.
The same thing goes with planned parenthood funding. If you are pro-choice than donate your own money but don’t make government forcibly take people’s money to support what a lot of people see as murdering the next generation.

      1. Firstly, I never said “well that’s not ‘true’ feminism, transgenderism, etc.” I am only providing my opinion and feedback. Secondly, I never said that America is sexist….It is everyone’s right to choose who they serve, as you say it, but it is discriminatory to “serve” some people and not others, just because you do not agree with them. You are never going to agree with everything someone says, that is why we are all unique. My ideas of equality are just that, my ideas. Clearly, I stated that the word equality is subjective, that is why we are having this conversation right now, because you do not agree….Lastly, planned parenthood does not use government funds for abortion….its illegal. Do your research. They are given government funding but none of it is applied to abortions. You do not have to agree with abortions, I think it is murder myself, but before we dish out information, we have to make sure it is factual.

Here is a source for you to read yourself!

      2. “but true feminism…” “There are many who identify as feminist, but in reality they are not…”
Abortion is funded by government money. Maybe not directly, but let’s be honest, when you give money to a company, they might not directly use those funds for abortion but they can, with the money they gained, cut funding in a particular area and redirect it to the abortion department. When you give money to x, x is better off and can do more things that they couldn’t do before. In my mind if we force someone to pay money (taxes) to fund an abortion provider (planned parenthood) we are NOT BEING “pro-choice”. In fact when government funds anything that endangers the lives of it’s citizens, even the future citizens, it is doing something that it shouldn’t be doing. At the very least it should leave the power up to the states.
To be clear I believe government shouldn’t be funding ANYBODY but especially not a company that disregards the right to life.

      3. We have strayed so far off-topic. We can talk about abortion all day, but that was not the point, originally. On a side-note, Planned Parenthood is more about womens health, yes they do abortions as well, but that is a women’s choice. I would never get an abortion, but I know many who have and they are haunted by that for the rest of their lives…If I was asked should abortion be abolished, I have mixed feelings. But that is my opinion, as much as I hate murdering a life, I have no idea what it feels like to be raped and to raise a child that looks like my rapist… I have no room to judge, and neither do you, no one does because we all handle trauma differently, and being raped is traumatic.
I feel like our conversation is not productive, as you stated, because you have still not answered my original question…I feel like we are getting off topic…first we were talking about what feminism is, and then transgender, and how they relate or do not relate. That was my original question to you… what do you mean when you say that feminism is completely at odds with LGBT+? Where are you getting your information?

    3. Sure it’s “discriminatory” to not serve someone. But that should be their right. If they are willing to lose some business because of their beliefs who are we to tell them that they have too. We have to defend the rights of everybody, including the right for PRIVATE individuals to refuse service to someone they don’t agree with.
As Dietrich Boenhoeffer said: “First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”

      1. You speak about someone’s rights, but that makes me question why you do not think it is someones right to get an abortion, whether you agree or not?
My post was speaking out on my feelings about equality. I stand by them. You speak truth, We must stand up for one another, but I am starting to wonder why we are debating, because you seem to have similar views but it also feels like a contradiction at the same time, because you are basically justifying inequality by saying “If they are willing to lose some business because of their beliefs who are we to tell them that they have too. We have to defend the rights of everybody, including the right for PRIVATE individuals to refuse service to someone they don’t agree with.” That makes no sense to me, especially if you think people shouldn’t have the right to choose to have an abortion…that is the opposite of having the right to choose. It is either one or the other, no grey area.

      2. The way I see at, as previously stated, is that My right to swing my fist ends when your nose begins. When you talk about abortion as a “woman’s choice” you are denying that baby’s right to live. It isn’t a “woman’s choice” because her preference could mean an innocent child’s death.
With that being said, I do agree that we have similar views. With regards to an individual’s right to refuse service. It’s just that. I fail to see why someone HAS to serve someone if they don’t want to. That should be their right. We have to allow them to do that with their private business.
I do agree that we have gotten a bit off topic.
With regards to your question about where I’m getting my info. Transgenderism is based on the idea that the person
        A. Recognizes that there are differences between the sexes.
and B. Thinks that they are the opposite sex.
And the definition of feminism is the “advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.”
So when one side (feminism) says we are equal and the other side (trans-genderism) says we are different and we recognize that and want to change our gender come together it throws common sense out the window.

I don’t think that we will be able to agree with each other on this topic so I propose a truce. Let’s just agree to dis-agree. I do think that your goal is a good one though.
Thanks for the thoughtful discussion. It’s nice having a conversation with someone who disagrees but doesn’t scream (or block) you off the metaphorical stage.

      3. We definitely have to agree to disagree. I do agree that abortion is wrong and I wish we didn’t allow it so that the option didn’t exist. No one can tell someone how to act, what choices to make, but denying someone access to your business is wrong! But, it is your choice.
        (Back on topic)
Being transgender is not an “idea” it is how someone feels. No one could tell me not to be attracted to men…no one…couldn’t do it if you paid me. So, how can we tell someone that they shouldn’t feel like they would be happier, more confident, and comfortable in their skin, if they were the opposite sex? How can you tell a guy that he can’t be attracted to another man, if that’s how he feels?
Transgender people just want to be treated fairly just like women.
Women want to be equal, which is the same as being fairly. Both transgender and feminist believe that their differences should have value and should be treated equally. Women bring something different to the workplace, so we should get equal pay and wages. Transgender men and women go to the bathroom, so they should be able to urinate in the bathroom that they identify with?
You are probably right about us not agreeing and thank you as well for the insightful conversation. Thank you for reading and for thinking their is value in my mission, equality.

  3. I love this!! I absolutely agree 110 % and more to your words. This is such a moving and necessary post that everyone should read! xx
